Eye Opening

The last time i picked up a book was back in high school, I have never been a reader before. But a great women that i met a couple of months ago told me she knew about Jennifer Myers story i was very interested to know more about her. I continued to ask more questions and she then told me about Trafficking the Good Life. I ordered the book and I could not put it down, while I was reading it i told many others about it and all of a sudden we were all reading it!
The two things that i thought were great about this book were; 1: i was able to relate to many of the feelings that she had. I may have never been in the same situation but the way she expressed her thoughts and feelings were ways that I wouldn't be able to put in words. I couldn't believe how she took those words out of my mind and wrote them down so easily. I love the way she worded everything. The 2nd thing that i thought was fantastic about this book was what happened before and during prison because she expressed it so well. I was once told "I would never wish prison on anyone not even my worst enemy" I have had many people in my life that have gone to prison and i have seen many movies about prison life, but not ones did i think anything or worry too much about it. I started reading Jennifer's book after my boyfriend had gone to prison. The things i have learned from her book and the things that my boyfriend has taught me have made me feel selfish. Selfish for never caring or helping those in my life that ended up in prison and needed me the most. I will never do that again, i will help my loved ones in need. I read her book very slowly because i didn't know what i was going to do after i finished it, but once i read her book i have bought many other books after that and reading is now one of my hobbies, never did i think that reading was going to be so interesting.
I would highly recommend this book to everyone, it catches your eye and you don't want to put it down ones you start reading. I hope to read a second book by Jennifer Myers in the near future.

Exciting and very moving

Found Jennifer's story riveting in her description of driving for a drug syndicate ;the adventure, anxiety, comradery, danger and rewards as well as harsh realities of relying on others in highly consequential situations. Jennifer's terrific account is a great backdrop to the Netflix
show "Orange is the New Black".

I really liked this book

I really liked this book! Jennifer's writing is so captivating and leaves you wanting more. Even though I haven't been through the same thing, I was able to connect to her story. The raw truth of her human experience really hits home on so many levels. Love, addiction, travel, temptation....these are certainly things I've had to face in my life. Most of us have hit "rock bottom" at one point or another, but we just don't write about it for the world to see! Her courage and strength is beyond words. I applaud her for opening her soul, making herself vulnerable and turning her life around!

Awsome and sad, but worth to read it

I absolutely loved the story of a true love, when both parts only want to make the life of their beloved ones better. And Jianxin, well, you will absolutely love him!!!! His love for Jingqiu is so deep, that he is willing to make her beleave he is not worth it in order not to let her die with him. It's so touching... so moving!!! I won't lie to the readers.... this is a story that will make you cry, you will cry A LOT!!!!. And for days, you'll sill remember parts of the book and your eyes will be full of tears.... but YOU CAN NOT READ IT!!!! Is a unique story, and a real one besides!!. Is the love story everyone would be willing to have, except for the end. You will not regreat reading it, I promise.

Love Peter Reynolds

We own almost every Peter Reynolds book there is and have given many as gifts. His illustrations are always so whimsical but definitely convey a great message and his story is always simple, but to the point. I bought this for our teenager who had a rather "hum bug" attitude about this past Holiday Season, but then commented that the "Christmas Angel" (aka mom) had been rather uncreative in her little gifts leading up to the big day. While the Christmas Angel explained that creativity is tied to enthusiasm, "The Smallest Gift of Christmas" got to the point.

With such a great Holiday message, I'm sure I'll be buying more copies of this in the future. We've probably give 20+ copies of Peter's "The Dot" and "Ish" to our favorite teachers over the years.

Lessons and Imagination

Selfish Roland is very disappointed that his Christmas present is so small. He hoped and wished for a larger gift and when he received that, he wanted something bigger and bigger. There was just no satisfying this child. That is until he realizes what is important and suddenly appreciates that the best gifts come in small packages.

This Christmas story might help young ones see that it is not about the size of the gift, but about home and family.

After the first reading, and you know a child wants the same story over and over, cover up the words and let your young one tell you the story they see. The simple illustrations, and I am not disparaging – some books are way over the top, are great springboards for a child’s imagination.

Beautiful Book Shares a Wonderful Message to Keep in Mind at the Holidays

I love this unique and heartfelt Christmas story! At the holidays, it's all too easy to get caught up in the frenzy of shopping for the perfect gift, thinking about the gifts you want, and so forth. I won't give the end of the story away, but this book is a sweet reminder to look past the materialistic side of the holidays and remember what really matters. As with his other books, Peter H. Reynolds' exquisite illustrations add magic to the story — they range from charmingly playful to absolutely heartwarming. I can't say enough good things... Just put it under your tree this year and spread the joy!

About the Author
Dee Unglaub Silverthorn studied biology as an undergraduate at Newcomb College of Tulane University, where she did research on cockroaches. For graduate school she switched to studying crabs and received a Ph.D. in marine science from the Belle W. Baruch Institute for Marine and Coastal Sciences at the University of South Carolina. Her research interest is epithelial transport, and most recently work in her laboratory has focused on transport properties of the chick allantoic membrane. Her teaching career started in the Physiology Department at the Medical University of South Carolina but over the years she has taught a wide range of students, from medical and college students to those still preparing for higher education. At the University of Texas-Austin she teaches physiology in both lecture and laboratory settings, and instructs graduate students on developing teaching skills in the life sciences. She has received numerous teaching awards and honors, including a 2011 UT System Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award, the 2009 Outstanding Undergraduate Science Teacher Award from the Society for College Science Teachers, the American Physiological Society’s Claude Bernard Distinguished Lecturer and Arthur C. Guyton Physiology Educator of the Year, and multiple awards from UT-Austin, including the Burnt Orange Apple Award. The first edition of her textbook won the 1998 Robert W. Hamilton Author Award for best textbook published in 1997—98 by a University of Texas faculty member. Dee was the president of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society in 2012—13, has served as editor-in-chief of Advances in Physiology Education, and is currently chair of the American Physiological Society Book Committee. She works with members of the International Union of Physiological Sciences to improve physiology education in developing countries, and this book has been translated into seven languages. Her free time is spent creating multimedia fiber art and enjoying the Texas hill country with her husband, Andy, and their dogs.

Missing Information

I ordered this book as a rental, because it was the best deal I could find. It was supposed to have Mastering A & P access with it, but it didn't. There was no Mastering A & P access code anywhere. I had to go ahead and purchase it at the last minute, because I was out of time. My class had already started, and I needed the textbook and the MAP. I haven't had time to try to find a phone number or an email anywhere to contact you guys about it. I had to get the Mastering A&P on my own, which was another $66. I ordered this book from you, so that I wouldn't have to pay that extra $66. For as much as I paid for the rented textbook from you, and the MAP's $66, I could have had the set from the bookstore where I go, for the same amount of money, plus I could have had it immediately, plus I could have owned the book. Please let me know who to contact about this. Thanks. Marlene Hancock

Excellent

Most importantly, the choice of content was nearly perfect... very readable, but not overly wordy... relevant to all readers who want a general overview of human physiology.

The presentation was what motivated the five star rating... The figures were numerous, relevant, informative and intuitive. ... However, there were several innovations in presentation of note. In particular, each chapter had a running series of short clinical correlation boxes, where the relevance of the physiological information was highlighted.... At the end of the chapter there was a concise summary that was easy to read and was competed... The questions at the end were segregated into levels of difficulty and were valuable checks of one's grasp of the material... I can't say enough...

With regard to weaknesses, or more precisely text personality... There was very little emphasis on quantitative aspects of physiology, i.e. equations. Many of the important equations were presented, just not emphasized... this goes counter to my view of physiology as a quantitative science.... rather than just a study of structure and function... but, perhaps, the quantitative aspects are more appropriate for a more advanced audience.... Also, one had to progress substantially into the text (500 or so pages), before homeostatic mechanisms were discussed (where I believe these mechanisms form the core of the science of physiology)..... And, most of the first third of the book related more to cellular physiology than to system physiology... an important subject that brings everyone up to speed, but which takes substantial time to master and makes it hard to apply this text to a single semester course....

Gift recipient was extremely happy upon opening this book...

I purchased this book as a gift for a someone who has a passion for history, and the searching out the knowledge and history that may not be what most were taught in traditional classrooms, by traditional textbooks. He also has a Master's degree in history education and is also a Graham Hancock fan. So, while I haven't read this book I can say that the gift recipient (my fiancé) was thrilled to receive it.

I did go back and forth quite a bit when trying to decide which of Graham's books to purchase, but this is one that my fiancé has mentioned quite often as being on his list of books to read, and from the reaction I got when I gave the gift I am confident I made the correct choice.

I purchased a gently used retail version, in paperback, and although it has been previously read it has plenty of years left to it and looks great on our coffee table. Previously read books have a certain charm to them, in my opinion.

From what I do know of Graham Hancock, through what I have learned through documentaries, interviews etc., I can give my opinion that some of his theories are interesting and, at the very least, can spark healthy debate and discussion concerning ancient civilizations. Despite agreeing, or disagreeing, with all (or any) of his theories, his ideas can get you thinking. One must at least ponder that we don't know all there is to know, especially if all we know was fed to us by textbooks.

I may pick it up myself and read it one day, but for now I will enjoy the fact that I gave a gift to someone who thoroughly enjoys and appreciates it.

Worth a look, but it's a mixed bag

I just finished "Fingerprints of the Gods, and I have mixed feelings about it. It's long and tedious to read, and took me way longer than a 505 page book should. I read every night before bed, and two pages into this I would be sound asleep.
That said, here the pros and cons.
Pros: He brings up a lot of interesting historical enigmas that mainstream research can not answer, and in many cases tries to ignore.

Cons: He spends forever pointing all this out, adds a lot of very dry technical jargon in an attempt to make some of his wilder theories less preposterous, and even with that he still goes out on a limb with some of his wilder arguments.

My conclusion? Very interesting questions about apparently advanced technology in pre-history are brought up. It's just unfortunate that he writes all this in the style of a boring academic paper and spends forever on the intricacies of his wild theories. I don't regret reading this, but it could have been so much better.

Thought provoking..

I just finished Fingerprints and onto Magicians...this book was highly thought provoking and full of mysteries, some uncovered and many remaining unsolved. The big picture was laid it very well although can be a bit tough to follow all of the detail and specifics especially when involving many ancient names and words unfamiliar to most in today's short-spelled, low attention, fast paced society.

About the Author

Younes Shabany received his BS in mechanical engineering from Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, Iran, in 1991. He then went to Vancouver, Canada where he obtained his MS in mechanical engineering from the University of British Columbia in 1994. He came to the United States and received a Ph.D in mechanical engineering with a minor in aeronautics and astronautics from Stanford University, California, in 1999. Dr. Shabany has over 18 years of experience in thermal-fluid engineering. He is currently Director of Thermal Engineering & Design and Thermal Architect in Advanced Technology Group at Flextronics International USA, Milpitas, California. In this position, he has been leading thermal design activities in Flextronics’ worldwide design centers on a variety of infrastructure, computing, consumer, automobile, medical, and power electronic products. Before Flextronics, he worked for Applied Thermal Technologies, Santa Clara, California, where he was the director for two years. While at Applied Thermal Technologies, he worked with over 60 companies and designed thermal solutions for about as many pieces of electronic equipment including telecom and networking equipment, desktop and laptop computers, biomedical equipment, and consumer products. Dr. Shabany has also been a lecturer at San Jose State University, California, since the summer of 2001. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in heat transfer and advanced mathematical analysis including his most favorite course, Heat Transfer in Electronics. He has also advised graduate students on their projects and theses.

Good Textbook

As an electrical engineering students required to take a heat transfer class, this book did the job. I took the course with the author as the professor, and I thought that this book for the most part is concise and highlights the points which engineers need to know.

Some of the later chapters seem slightly less polished. There were also some typos, but I suppose it is not the first time I have run into typos in a textbook. Overall, this book was refreshingly to-the-point compared to some of the other engineering texts I have encountered so far. An added bonus is the form factor, it's about half the size of a regular textbook which makes it easy to bring around.

Heat Transfer - Thermal management of electonics

This book is very well written, with the necessary theory and realistic examples of many different heat transfer techniques that really helps a packaging engineer to do his job correctly. The author has a thorough understanding of heat transfer and knows how to explain this in a good way.
The only thing I miss is the answers to the exercises, in order to see if I have found the correct answeer.
A great book that I would use in undergraduate teaching if was giving such a course !!!
