A Very Readable Encyclopedia

A magnificent work of scholarship. Not merely a collection of previously published material. The information for this book comes from primary sources that cannot be found elsewhere. Just one example: Did Union ever discriminate against Jewish applicants? The answer (yes) is here. Presumably not something you'd find in an official college publication.

Very well written. Can be easily and profitably read cover-to-cover; not just a reference book. As a former editor-in-chief of Concordiensis, the Union College newspaper, I'm delighted to see this fascinating volume, and I'd recommend it to any of my fellow alums, and anyone else interested in the the history of Union College, or education in the 19th and 20th centruies.

Hard to read, even for non-fiction

I love trance music. I love non-fiction reading. But I didn't really enjoy reading this book. Its really more of a longer thesis than a book. The beginning of the book is actually very very compelling, giving a history of how raving began, and how it unites many together.

I didn't finish this book. I got about 80% through and it got weird. The general feeling of the book changed greatly. Focusing more on spirit-ism and good vs evil spirit vibes. In addition the interviews were often times duplicated or only partially re-quoted as the book continued on. Sometimes even the short interjections from the author repeated.

Overall, if you are looking for a new way of looking at religion or music even, you may want to pick this book up, (it's kinda pricey for only ~180 pages) but if you are looking for information about raves / electronic music, or even a brief history of said music, look elsewhere.

Like a symphony, magnificent and moving!

Loved this book! An epic saga showing how ordinary people get caught up in extraordinary political events as the characters live through the turmoil in China from the 1940s to the present day. The novel is filled with music as the characters, musicians, are denounced for their love of music, and their ability to play or compose. They hear music only in their heads. At some points, the novel itself feels like a symphony in one's head, magnificent and moving. The events around the Tienanmen Square massacre are gut wrenching. This is the kind of book that changes the way you see the world.

A lovely story without an end.

I bought this book to understand better part of the history of China since I am planning to visit it. The story made me more enthusiastic about going there.
I read the book so fast because it was so interesting, never knowing or imagining what was next. I don't remember having read the word love, but you could read in lines there were many feelings involved, including love. Amazing way of writing.

The constant political turmoil and finally the uprising in Tiananmen Square is brilliantly portrayed as you follow the lives and loves of this family. If you like historical fiction then this book is perfect for you.

Insight from 4 centuries before Christ!

Wow, what an amazing piece of history this writing is! You really cannot understate the importance of Plato's "The Republic." The writing explores what an ideal state/nation/society is and how to achieve it. I won't go into too much detail, but the writing covers A LOT of ground. It discusses the nature of justice, the theory of forms, the immortality of the soul, and the role of philosophy and poetry in society. If you consider yourself a learned person, you cannot skip over this writing from 380 BC. The insight it provides to our world TO THIS DAY is simply amazing.

If anyone is newly interested in philosophy, I would most certainly recommend Republic. In fact, it was my first delve into philosophy and it has genuinely changed my life in the years since. This is not a book. It should not be thought of as "someone's ideas." Rather, this is a template of paradigmatic shifts toward more reasonable and logical thought and thought processes. There is a reason Plato's name has withstood 2,000 years of an ever-changing world and by reading this, you'll understand why.

A neglected great. Read Bavarian Gentian and S*** of Death to sample him at his sublime best. Earlier poems are Snake, Humming Bird, In the Cities, Storm in the Black Forest, Piano. If you are not move by this small selection, you are not sensitive to his voice. He in poetry as in fiction a wonderful observer of the smallest detail, the very richness of life..

For the sake of comparison, the appendices contain the ethics documents of the British Association of Art Therapists and the Australian and New Zealand Arts Therapy Association. Written for art thera­py students, art therapists, and expressive arts therapy professionals, readers will find it very useful as a textbook for art therapy courses dealing with professional ethics and art therapy supervision. It will also be useful as a supplemental text in art therapy theory and practice courses.
